Who has used a VPS?

I haven’t personally used a VPS myself, but our company website is hosted on a VPS. From what I’ve seen, it offers better performance and control than shared hosting, especially as traffic grows and stability becomes more important.

I'm not sure if a VPS or just better shared is the answer. Well, my hosting company has very fast shared

Once upon a time, I got a free VPS from FreeVPS.us. During that time I worked on it quite a bit and really enjoyed using it. The website loaded fast, and I didn’t run into problems with limited resources, at least as far as I remember.

Currently, I’m using shared hosting, and honestly, it’s pretty bad. It barely meets my needs and quickly becomes a problem when my site reaches higher usage levels, especially with PHP resource limits.

It is now not open for business, and they changed the name to post4vps. I have read their past post that it is closed forever, but it was a nice platform for learners to get a VPS for free.

I messed around with OVHCloud and I also messed around with a droplet from Digital Ocean too. I was thinking about attempting to convert a phpBB forum to Discourse but I never got around to doing so. I did install Discourse on the host, I ran into issues trying to get the Docker installed but once I updated Ubuntu to the latest version everything installed correctly.

Another feature of the VPS is the ability to create sandboxes and honeypots. These are methods of testing software updates and features while keeping the main site secure. Your company uses one of its VPS partitions for its main site and another one as a backup.

How was your experience? How would you compare it to shared, dedicated etc.?

I used to have a VPS. I haven't had one in years though. It's more powerful than a shared server. It's the next step after a shared. Generally, you'll be able to power your sites for a while with a VPS.

What do you mean "power your sites for awhile"?

You won't run out of storage, and you won't be limited by other websites on the environment. A VPS is quite effective for many websites. Most websites don't need a dedicated unless they have 30k+ visitors a day, if not more.
