I haven't used it but I visited one of the ones you listed above. It looks very much like SMF software. I like its simplicity.

I wonder about copyright issues. What makes a software unique enough?

That is true. I would say it depends on how things are actually done and the general user experience, not the look. There are quite a number of similarities across the different forum softwares although each one of them is independent.

Honestly I don't think there's any other forums that I visit that use punBB. I used to have a retro gaming forum that was powered by it, but I mainly just wanted to test the software out. Chordie looks amazing though! I like their custom theme.

Chordie gets mega traffic probably. Its SEO metrics are huge.
