This won't work for all situations, but it brought one of my sites back recently.
Rename your .htaccess file. Create a new one with this code in it. ;)

Code: Select all

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
# END WordPress
:!: Note: I mentioned "prevent" because some people might want to replace .htaccess just to be on the "safe side".
