Can motherboards get repaired?

In the past, I have changed a few computers. I have been told that once the motherboard of a computer gets damaged or stops working, you just have to throw away your computer. However, motherboard seems just like a circuit board with many components. Can it actually get repaired?

It depends on the damage done to the mother board. If there's a damage layer of the board, it's nearly impossible to repair. If there's a few components that just need to be replaced, then it's doable.
