Is free forum software more prone to hacking?

Perhaps it is, assuming the software isn't updated and even more with weak admin passwords.

And I'm being sarcastic as these problems are on the admin, not the software company.

I don't think so. I used free forum software for years before moving to paid software, never in my life experienced any kind of security breach with free software.

I do not think it matters whether the forum software is free or paid or not. Any software is hackable without the proper update.

Over the years I have heard it so many times that free forum software is prone to hacking and it should not be trusted but it has all been proven wrong.

As long as you keep the software up to date when they release the latest updates or patches, your forum should be just as safe as when using premium software.

By the way are 2FA add ons also available for free forum software? I haven't tried searching when I was using free software.
