I have used SMF, MyBB, and phpBB. Out of these three open source forum software, my favorite one is SMF. IT is feature rich and also easy to use. While phpBB is comparable with most premium software, it is difficult to use.

How is phpBB comparable with most premium software?

I prefer MyBB among these. Only thing, it is not responsive by default. :(

That's easily fixed with a free theme.

It is not. The core being responsive matters. That's my understanding.

I have used SMF and phpBB and I agree that SMF is extremely user-friendly. PhpBB also has a lot of customization, but seems more cumbersome to manage, especially by a novice. .

What do you mean? Either it works on a mobile or doesn't.

I always thought that is not how it should be. If you fix a pipe for leak, it is never the same as new.

The best thing about phpBB is it is responsive, a feature that is lacking on mybb. phpBB also has a forum currenvcy, which allows you to create a marketplace section on the forum.
