i've used free hosting in the past like Freewebs, but I haven't used any in years.

Cloudflare offers free hosting though and Github though.
How was Freewebs?

There are some free hosting companies that aren't that bad. Jcink, Forumotion and Proboards are all okay if want to try one.

I use to recommend Zetaboards but I wouldn't touch them now if you paid me. They were bought out by Tapatalk so I want nothing to do with them.

I think I have also tested 000webhost around the time I was trying out to test a blog for free. It's really slow with a lot of intrusive ads.

Slow, compared to paid hosting, but actually faster compared to other free hosting. Well, when I was using, there were not many ads, just one banner on the footer. One main issues that I did not like was the site went offline at least once every 24 hours.

Infinity Free is good but you have to install a free SSL.

I have had experience with InfinityFree. It is handy to experiment with ideas but when it comes to serious projects the limitations and the advertisements can become annoying.

But the ads are only in the admin panel.

I liked it. It's how I learned how to build websites, code html and css. I then learned basis php after wards. I still know a little bit of php now.
