How was your experience? How would you compare it to shared, dedicated etc.?

Currently, I am using VPS. I moved to VPS from shared hosting. One major benefits I see is I have better resources. I haven't used dedicated Server, so I cannot compare between VPS and Dedicated Server.

I have, and it is fun. Only thing is, you need to spend some time handling it. You need to secure it and keep it that way.
You will have to buy things like cPanel, which can be a costly affair. It is not like managed hosting where you can buy and almost forget about it. Packages, package updates, upgrades, OS upgrades, there is a lot to do.

Are those upgrades and updates difficult? What price range is cPanel?

If you know the OS on your server, no. Like, you have used Ubuntu and have Ubuntu on VPS, it is comfortable.

Used a VPS fo awhile. It was fun, but overkill for the traffic I had.

Why is that?

Ubuntu works almost the same on a PC and a server. Not exactly, but if you used on your desktop it is much easier handling it on your server.

I used to have a VPS. I haven't had one in years though. It's more powerful than a shared server. It's the next step after a shared. Generally, you'll be able to power your sites for a while with a VPS.

What do you mean "power your sites for awhile"?

I haven’t personally used a VPS myself, but our company website is hosted on a VPS. From what I’ve seen, it offers better performance and control than shared hosting, especially as traffic grows and stability becomes more important.
